As modern science advances it becomes more and more clear that what we eat impacts so much more than just how much fuel our body has day to day. Foods can help boost immune systems or reduce anxiety and so many more things. With each passing day, we find more and more links to the diseases that impact our body and the food we consume. For today’s blog, we’re going to talk about how foods can have a major impact on our menstrual cycles and how YOU can take control of your cycle by just adding a few things to your diet each month. Let us know what you think in the comments and if you have ever tried to seed cycle on your own!
What Is Seed Cycling?
Seed cycling is a natural approach to regulating and thereby reducing the negative symptoms associated with your periods each month. Mostly found in seeds, hence the name, there are powerful compounds in common foods that interact with our body’s level of estrogen and progesterone and how they are processed during your cycle. People have found that if done properly, eating certain types of seeds at the right time each month will allow you to take control of your period.
What Are The Benefits Of Seed Cycling?
Seed cycling can help with so many things! It can help to regulate hormone imbalances that you may suffer from in order to help your periods become more dependable, less severe, and reduce heavy bleeding. Here are some other things that it can help tackle:
- Reduce PMS severity and symptoms
- Reduce cramping
- Lower blood levels
- Help with irregular periods
- Reduces perimenopause symptoms
- Good for your overall nutritional health
That Sounds Great! How Can I Get Started Seed Cycling?
Seed cycling is typically broken down into two phases that correspond to the menstrual cycle. To get started, you will need to buy several seeds, preferably ground, but you can eat them lightly roasted or raw as well. We recommend purchasing pumpkin seeds, flax seeds, sunflower seeds, and sesame seeds. About 1 to 2 pounds each should suffice. After that, you will have to know exactly where YOU are in your cycle at a given time, which shouldn’t be too hard to do, but not for all. Once you have that pinpointed, then you can start your cycling supplementation according to the chart below.
DAYS 1-14 OF YOUR CYCLE (OR MENSTRUATION TO OVULATION)
1-2 tablespoons ground flax seeds
1-2 tablespoons ground pumpkin seeds
DAYS 15-28 OF YOUR CYCLE (OR OVULATION TO MENSTRUATION)
1-2 tablespoons ground sunflower seeds
1-2 tablespoons ground sesame seeds
