Best Ways To Optimize Your Evenings
In today’s fast-paced world, one of the best things you can do to get ahead and stay ahead of the game is to optimize your daily rituals in order to get the most out of them so that you can be at your best more often than not. Here are some fundamentals to optimizing your evening routine that will help you sleep better and fall asleep faster.
- 5 hours before bedtime: stop caffeine and other stimulant intake
- Give your body time to process the remaining stimulants and give you the best shot at falling asleep naturally.
- 3 to 4 hours before bedtime: stop all fluid intake.
- This will help you sleep more restfully during the night and you won’t have to worry about being interrupted by a trip to the bathroom
- 2 Hours before bedtime: no more screens.
- Limiting your screentime before trying to sleep does wonders for your ability to fall asleep faster and helps your brain relax and stop racing.
- This includes TV screens, phone and tablet screens, and any other type of electronic device.
- You can also take a natural sleep aid supplement like melatonin here as well
- 1 hour before bedtime: start your winddown routine
- At this point, you have to really concentrate on getting ready for bed and getting into your bed at a reasonable and consistent bedtime. Going to bed at the same time each night helps your body build up its natural rhythm which will help you in the long run.
- Take some time to meditate and do a relaxing breathing routine
- Read a book! Reading an actual book (not on a phone screen) is an excellent way to trick your brain into concentrating on the story rather than on all of the things you typically worry about or think about as you fall asleep. Read for about an hour or until you feel your eyes starting to droop and then turn off the reading light and finally start to try to sleep.
