11 Funny Quotes about Motherhood

Did you know that in most countries, the word for Mother begins with the letter ‘M’? Say ‘Mama’ in many countries and everyone knows you are talking about that tireless superhero who keeps families going.

When a woman becomes a mother, her entire life changes. Ask a mother why she does what she does at home, in the workplace, or anywhere else, and she will probably look at you like you’re crazy. “Everything I do is for my children,” is most her reply.

I believe this is a universal feeling. Mothers around the world put the welfare of their children above their own. This global motherhood mission is one reason that Mother’s Day is honored in more than 40 countries. Until the sad day that they pass away, moms care, think, and worry about their kids ALL the time.

While having a child is the obvious requirement to earn the name ‘mother’, being a mom is not always easy. At any given time, it can be rewarding and challenging, happy and sad, full of pride and full of anguish.

And sometimes it’s downright funny.

Because being a mama can be tough at times, it sure can help to have a sense of humor. If you know a mom who needs a dose of comedy to help her get through her selfless, hard-working and hectic day, share this with her! Here are 11 hilarious quotes about motherhood that just about every mom can identify with.

11 Funny Quotes about Motherhood holistic doctor mama

1 – “Everybody wants to save the earth; nobody wants to help mom do the dishes.” – P.J. O’Rourke

2 – “Kids are definitely the boss of you … anyone who will barge into the room while you are on the commode is the boss of you. And when you explain to them that you’re on the commode and that they should leave but they don’t? That’s a high-level boss.” – Tina Fey

3 – “When my kids become wild and unruly, I use a nice, safe playpen. When they’re finished, I climb out.” – Erma Bombeck

4 – “My children’s laughter is my favorite sound! The sound of their deep breathing when I know they are asleep is a close second.” – Unknown

5 – “I can remember the first time I had to go to sleep. Mom said, “Stephen, time to go to sleep.” I said, “But I don’t know how.” She said, “It’s really easy. Just go down to the end of tired and hang a left.” Out of curiosity, I went down to the end of tired and took a right. My mother was there and she said, “I thought I told you to go to sleep!” – Steven Wright

6 – “Cleaning your house while your kids are still growing up is like shoveling the sidewalk before it stops snowing.” – Phyllis Diller

7 – “I love when my kids tell me they’re bored. As if the lady standing in front of a full sink of dirty dishes is where you go to get ideas about how to have a good time.” – Unknown

8 – “Being a mom means being on the lookout for poop in strange places. It’s always a good day when a suspicious brown smudge turns out to be candy.” – Nicole Fornabaio

9 – “The way I feel, if the kids are still alive when my husband gets home from work, I’ve done my job.” – Roseanne Barr

10 – “I didn’t expect to be so comfortable handing my child off to a nanny without getting any of her information. As soon as she arrived at my house, I threw my baby in her arms and went to Target. She gave me her driver’s license a week after — she was like, “Uh, you should probably have my address, since you gave me the keys to your house and your child.” And we were like, “Oh, yeah, that’s probably a good idea.” – Ali Wong

11- “You know you are a mama when you re-read Goldilocks and finally understand why Mama Bear’s porridge was cold.” – Anonymous

I hope those gave you a good chuckle! Sometimes I think one of the best things we can do is not take it all so seriously. Motherhood is a wild ride for sure, but it can be a little less insane if we take it all in stride and laugh a bit more. For me time is flying so fast and I want to cherish every minute, but it isn’t always easy.
