5 Health-Boosting Paleo Foods That Lower Blood Pressure Naturally

The Paleo diet is well-known for its ability to lower high blood pressure. Of course, there are plenty of traditional blood pressure medications out there. Unfortunately, a lot of them deliver unhealthy side-effects. These include headaches, coughing, anxiety, dizziness, constipation or diarrhea. Men may experience erectile dysfunction, and both men and women can suffer from a lack of energy, unexplained weight loss or weight gain, and skin rashes.

Don’t forget that the medical answer to high blood pressure can be expensive as well. Your insurance may help, but you still have deductibles to meet. Additionally, the diuretics, beta blockers and ACE inhibitors your doctor prescribes may not be covered by your insurance.

What if you could naturally lower your blood pressure with Paleo foods, and without experiencing any of the unwelcome repercussions of treating this serious condition with traditional medicine?

As it turns out, that is exactly what you can do.

Incidentally, you can’t heal one part of your body without positively influencing other areas of your body and mind. This means that while you are munching down on these delicious and natural blood pressure regulators, you also get a Paleo-friendly boost to your overall health and well-being.

5 Health-Boosting Paleo Foods That Lower Blood Pressure Naturally

5 Health-Boosting Paleo Foods That Lower Blood Pressure Naturally

1 – Leafy Greens

Just about every healthy diet plan that has been proven to work will recommend you eat more leafy greens. When you eat leafy greens and other such plant-based foods, you flood your system with nutrition. You do so while consuming a small number of calories per serving. This can lead to the maintenance of a healthy body weight. High blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease and other serious health problems are much more likely to occur when you are overweight or obese.

Eat more kale and spinach, collard greens, romaine lettuce, butter lettuce, turnip greens, and microgreens. Your blood pressure will thank you (along with your heart).

2 – Mangoes

The humble mango was considered the “King of Fruits” in ancient Indian healing practices. Mangoes have plenty of potassium, healthy dietary fiber, magnesium, selenium, and vitamins A and E. This combination of nutrients and vitamins promotes a healthy blood flow throughout your body.

3 – Raw Sunflower Seeds

Did you know the sunflower was worshiped by Incas and Aztecs? It was a symbol of the sun god for them, and both the flowers and seeds of the plant were used for ceremonial and medicinal purposes. The potassium, magnesium, and vitamin E in sunflower seeds are known for supporting healthy cholesterol and blood pressure levels.

4 – Garlic

Paleo foods are so named because they would have been approved by your paleolithic ancestors. Garlic may very well have been eaten by those same cave-dwelling members of your family tree. We know for certain it has been used as a medicine for at least 5,000 years in Egypt, China, and India.

WebMD recommends eating garlic regularly for multiple heart health benefits. Garlic contains allicin, a chemical that gives this herb its telltale aroma known for keeping vampires at bay. Allicin is the secret ingredient that lowers high blood pressure and high cholesterol levels. It also prevents and treats atherosclerosis, or hardening of the arteries.

Smash, dice, or boil fresh garlic cloves to activate the most allicin. Eat fresh garlic within an hour of activating the allicin for the biggest heart health boost. A garlic powder supplement taken daily can drop high blood pressure as well. The US National Institutes of Health tell us a 600 to 900 mg dose of garlic powder (the fresher the better) can drop high blood pressure from 9% to 12% rather quickly.

5 – Beets

For the best overall health and well-being, eat the rainbow. Eat natural fruits and vegetables of a wide variety of colors. The richly purple beet is filled with minerals and nutrients your body needs. Beets reduce inflammation throughout the body because of special nitrates that relax and dilate your blood vessels, and help prevent blood clots. All of this is helpful for lowering high blood pressure, and rather quickly in some cases.

Dr. Leah Coles works with the Baker IDI Heart and Diabetes Institute in Melbourne, Australia. She cites research that shows a notable drop in blood pressure happens shortly after drinking a glass of beet juice. Additional health benefits of the Paleo-approved beet include a boost in physical performance and better digestive health. Beets have anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory properties, and promote weight loss for people who are overweight or obese.

Bonus Blood Pressure Reducing Food – Bananas

I felt like giving you a bonus with this Top 5 list, so here it is! Bananas are so good for you in many ways.

As with most health-boosting, Paleo-approved, natural foods, bananas provide the most nutrition when eaten raw. Bananas are potassium-rich, and this helps manage how salt affects your body. Too much salt in your body leads to water retention, and this raises your blood pressure.

One important study tracked the eating habits of more than 40,000 men. Those who got a lot of potassium-rich foods into their bodies had a significantly lower risk of developing high blood pressure and other heart-related conditions.
